I put normalcy in quotes because what actually is normal? The standard? The average of what everyone does/ thinks? If that’s the answer, and everyone is doing that- why do we strive for it? Do we want to be like everyone else? I feel like we are loosing ourselves along that path. I think it’s so cool when people go against the “norm” and are uniquely themselves.
I am heading back on the road in just over a week, and to me that feels “normal”. (I would talk about how strange life has been lately, but I feel like we are all well aware of that). I am so excited to be back skiing, competing, and being back on the road with my teammates. I know our staff has worked incredibly hard to make this happen, and I am so grateful for that. Traveling to Finland & Sweden during a world wide pandemic is no easy task.
I am most looking forward to expressing myself via sport. I feel like I have lost a little bit of that with not being on snow as much as usual. When I put my helmet on, pull out my slut strands (this is what we call the hair we pull out of our helmet so we don’t look like a boy 🤣), and put my goggles on I feel like a different woman. A woman who is confident, a woman who is eager, and a woman with a smile from ear to ear.
Everything will look a little different this year, but that doesn’t scare me. It actually excites me knowing I’m going to have to morph into any and every situation. I think that’s entertaining and keeps you on your toes with your head on a swivel. Kind of sounds like a rollercoaster. Like an amusement park. Like pure kid type 1 fun.
I’ll keep you guys posted! For now, follow along on my Instagram @avishort for updates and shenanigans along the way.
…and don’t try to be normal! Try to be YOU!
